Happy Summer!
Welcome to our July Newsletter!
We’ve Got News: Sign up to Stay in Touch!
Welcome to July! It’s incredible to think that in just a few short days, we will be celebrating our nation’s 248th birthday. We are fortunate to honor this legacy of independence, freedom, and the bravery of our country. Our journey, while far from revolutionary, often requires bravery, and we frequently meet individuals who embody courage and strive to live independently each day. Whether they are battling an illness with no choice but to fight or facing other challenges, these individuals inspire us with their resilience. Some have extensive support systems, while others may have less. Sometimes, bravery looks like asking for a helping hand, and we are here for you. Whether it’s providing transportation from an appointment or assisting you after a procedure, please feel free to reach out to us at nursingliaisons.com
GARDEN FRESH, FOR LIFE!
Many of us enjoy gardening, and Ellie has been working hard tending to her garden. With any luck, we’ll have vegetables, fruits, and flowers to show for
the hard work invested. It’s much easier to eat healthier during the summer months when delicious fruits and vegetables are more accessible. Nutrition impacts our overall health, including our physical and mental well-being. This July let’s each make a small effort to add a positive habit to our nutrition. Although eating healthily can cost more, you’re worth the investment!
STEP IT UP
In addition to healthy eating, we encourage you to stay active. Challenge yourself to get 5,000 to 10,000 steps a day. Movement is medicine and we are officially halfway through the year; it’s not too late to revisit those New Year’s resolutions. Keep moving forward, and let’s make the second half of the year as healthy and fulfilling as possible.
COOL IT
Be prepared as more heat waves are on the horizon.. Simple measures can help combat heat stroke:
Wear a hat wide enough to protect your face and provide a protective shade.
Drink enough fluids, like water, caffeine-free tea, lemonade, or sports drinks, to stay hydrated.
Avoid high-energy activities or work outdoors during midday heat if possible.
Also, please check on family and friends, especially older adults. Many medications can increase the risk of dehydration or lead to heat exhaustion. For instance, medications used to treat ADHD or high blood pressure can cause dehydration. Unfortunately, not everyone is aware of these side effects. Additionally, heat can reduce the efficacy of medications if they are left in hot areas, such as cars. Caffeine as well as certain medications can also act as a diuretic and contribute to dehydration. Our team of RNs can support you in a medication evaluation or help with visits to elderly loved ones during the peak heat.
HERE’S THE SCOOP
Right in time for the dog days of summer, thanks to President Regan, the third Sunday in July this year marks the 40th National Ice Cream Day! Regan wanted to acknowledge a treat enjoyed by over 90% of the US population. In 1984 he declared a day for ice cream. So, this July 21st, beat the heat and indulge in a presidential treat! Tell us: What’s your favorite flavor?
