As summer approaches we are all thinking about vacations. At Nursing Liaison, we also know that sickness doesn’t take a vacation. Now is a great time to prioritize your health by scheduling annual physical exams and appointments. Here are some important tips for staying safe and making the best of the days ahead.
1. Sun: As Summer approaches, we too are excited to enjoy the warm weather and make plans for protection: use plenty of sunscreen to reduce your risk of skin cancer and early onset of wrinkles.
2. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water especially when spending time outdoors, sweating or playing sports.
3. Prevent Bug Bites: Apply insect repellent and check regularly for ticks. If you find a tick attached to your skin for an unknown amount of time, seek medical advice for possible preventative antibiotics.
4. Wear appropriate gear: Whether you’re biking, gardening amid rose thorns like Ellie, swimming or playing Lisa’s new favorite, pickleball, make sure to wear the right protective gear. Your helmets, gloves, lifejackets and appropriate footwear can prevent injuries.
June 20 marks the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. As we spend more time outdoors, the risk of accidents can increase. Emergency room overcrowding is a significant issue during the summer. Over the past few years hospitals have also faced challenges and staffing shortages, longer stays and fewer beds available in rehabs and skilled nursing facilities.
We are committed to helping to alleviate this strain by providing direct assistance to patients and families in need. We offer transportation from hospitals, help patients settle back into their environment after discharge and review discharge instructions and medication needs. If you or a loved one would benefit from assistance, please reach out to us!
